Roof & Gutter Cleaning

Overview

Clear gutters, dry house.

A roof only works when water can leave it. The moment leaf litter, twigs, moss and roof grit build up in your gutters and valleys, the drainage path shuts down and water starts going where it was never designed to go — back under the roof sheets, over the gutter line into the eaves, and down inside the wall cavity. Most of the expensive water damage we're called out to repair didn't start with a failed roof. It started with a full gutter.

Why Roof & Gutter Cleaning Matters

Sydney's mix of eucalypts, summer storms and long dry spells is unusually hard on drainage. Gum leaves and bark shed year-round rather than in one clean autumn drop, so gutters silt up continuously. Then a single intense downpour arrives and the system has to move more water in twenty minutes than it will in the following month. If it can't, it overflows at the weakest point every time.

  • Prevents overflow at the gutter line — the number one cause of rotted fascia, soffits and rafter ends.
  • Stops water tracking back under roof sheets and tiles into ceilings and wall cavities.
  • Protects box gutters and sumps, where a blockage can pond water above your living space.
  • Reduces corrosion — wet organic debris sits against steel and eats the gutter from the inside out.
  • Removes fire fuel. Dry leaf litter in gutters is a documented ember-attack risk in bushfire-prone areas.
  • Keeps rainwater tanks clean by stopping sludge and organics washing into the storage.
  • Denies nesting material and moisture to birds, rodents, wasps and mosquitoes.
  • Preserves your insurance position — insurers routinely decline water claims caused by poor maintenance.

What Cleaning Actually Reveals

A clean is also an inspection. With the debris gone we can see what the debris was hiding: rust pinholes, split seams, sagging brackets, gutters running the wrong way, undersized or disconnected downpipes, lifted flashings, cracked tiles and failed valley irons. Most homeowners find out about these problems during a storm. Our clients find out during a clean, when the fix is still small.

Our Process

  • Hand-clear gutters, valleys, box gutters and sumps — no blowing debris back under the sheets.
  • Clear and pressure-flush downpipes and check discharge to stormwater.
  • Remove moss, lichen and debris build-up from roof surfaces and behind flashings.
  • Test the system under water flow to confirm fall and free drainage.
  • Leave the site clean — ground debris collected and removed.
  • Photo report of before, after and any defects found.

How Often

As a rule: twice a year for most Sydney homes, and quarterly where there are overhanging gums, tall neighbouring trees or a box gutter. Properties with rainwater tanks or in bushfire-prone zones should clean before every storm season without exception.
